Ed Sheeran returns to the Stern Show to perform live in studio

March 7, 2017

Good Morning Everybody!

Set to stop by the Stern Show studio for the second time ever Tuesday morning was none other than the man with the No. 1 song in America, Ed Sheeran. “Shape of You” (above) currently sits on top of the Billboard Hot 100, coming off of the release of “÷” (pronounced “Divide”), Sheeran’s third studio album.

Howard revealed that he was specifically excited for Ed to stop by because he is very close to writing a hit song himself and wants to discuss the craft of songwriting with the 26-year-old Brit.

As inspiration, Howard was listening to Tone Loc’s “Funky Cold Medina,” wondering if maybe he just needed a good riff. On the other hand, he was also listening to Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher” and told Robin that David Lee Roth’s vocals are a “brilliant” addition to the guitar parts.

Robin offered maybe, in the vein of James Brown, all Howard needs is a catchphrase like “say it loud” or “hot pants.”

Either way, Howard was optimistic. “Expect a hit song from me very soon,” he told listeners. “You can be very excited.”
