Before closing out the show on Monday, the Stern Show welcomed on a very special guest — Teddy Swims. In the SiriusXM building for an upcoming Howard 101 special, the Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter discussed his blossoming career with Howard as well as his headline-grabbing performance at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards. While some of his fans were upset with the network for airing an abbreviated version of his two-song performance, Swims insisted he didn’t mind.

“When you’re coming up, you take what you can get,” he told Howard. “It got me on the Howard Stern Show, so I can’t be too upset.”

The Georgia native, who now resides in Los Angeles, took time out to reflect on the harrowing wildfires decimating his adoptive city. “We were okay in the Valley, but it’s definitely been tough. I know a couple of people who lost everything to [the fires],” he revealed. “What’s been beautiful about the situation, though, is you see a tragedy happening that affects all of us and people really tend to come together and I think it shows the inherent goodness of humanity.”

Despite residing across the country, home never feels far away for Swims thanks to bandmates Jesse Hampton and Jairus Hodge, who joined him Monday in the Stern Show studio. “I’ve known these guys my whole life,” Teddy said. “I could never get away from [them].”
