After a months-long media frenzy of rumors, innuendo, and speculation regarding the Stern Show’s future at SiriusXM, Howard Stern took to the airwaves on Monday morning and set the record straight.
“Everything you’ve been reading in the paper about me or about Robin is completely false,” Howard told his Howard 100 listeners, explaining that no media pundit or anonymous sources could possibly know what the future would hold.
“Here’s the truth: SiriusXM and my team have been talking about how we go forward in the future,” he continued. “They approached me, they’ve sat down with me like they normally do, and they’ve been fantastic. We’ve been talking.”
“ I’ve been thinking about retiring, now I can’t because they’ll say I’ve been pushed out,” he added at one point with a laugh. “So, I’ll be back.”
Howard appreciated all the coverage and attention his negotiations had been receiving — “I’m absolutely flattered whether anyone even cares if I re-sign” — but he also made a point of shutting down one particularly egregious rumor about the feelings he held for his SiriusXM colleagues, including “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper.
“Let me tell you how I feel about Alex Cooper [and] how I feel about any person who works on these channels: God bless them. If they can bring in a subscriber it can only be good for me,” Howard said. “Any of these guys — Andy Cohen, Mad Dog, Stephen A. Smith — I only want them to do well.”
