The Directorial Debut of JD Harmeyer's 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'

Check out behind the scenes footage from the Stern staffer's work with the long running comedy on FXX

Last night, JD Harmeyer's episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiered. He directed what we are sure was a vital scene in not just that episode, but the show's entire 10 year history.

He mumbled something about it on the air but never really alerted us to it's airing. Therefore, we couldn't alert you. In a way, JD has let us all down.

But we're sure the episode "The Gang Group Dates" will replay many times on FXX so try to catch it. In the mean time, all we can provide is this commercial featuring the episode the hope that JD will one day read the entire script verbatim for us.

For some, a job watching TV for a living would be "the dream job". For others, watching TV for a living for the Howard Stern Show would be "the dream job".

But not for JD Harmeyer. His dream job is to be a director. And despite working in the entertainment industry for 10 years on the Howard Stern Show, JD had not taken many steps towards fulfilling his dream.

Well, the good folks at It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - who are huge fans of our show - came to the rescue! They very generously offered JD not only the chance to guest direct a scene but promised to take him through the entire process so he could actually learn how to direct.

HOLLYWOOD HARMEYER

JD arrives in Hollywood! Here he is on the Fox set taking in a NYC street scene. Big thanks to the Tapes Team Gregg Karmel for documenting JD's trip for us!

JD's first stop before hitting the set was visiting the Production Office. Yes, that's an official Always Sunny hat he's sporting.

Off to the set! Here JD is with show director Richie Keen who clearly looks unnerved at the thought he may lose his job to Howard's TV guy watcher.

LEARNING THE ROPES

JD is on the set of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia for his first official day as director. Check out the "director's headphones" he's sporting. Fans of the show know, he's on the Paddy's Pub set.

Hey look! Baba Booey came for a visit.

JD visits the prop closet (which looks a lot like our prop closet!) Here is with the cock rings and leashes that will be used in the scene he's directing.

Lunch Break!

Ah, the best part of Hollywood - the Craft Service table!

A DIRECTOR IS BORN

JD in his directing suit with the 1st Assistant Director of the show Mike Risoli. Gregg described Mike as the "JD Whisperer" - who kept JD at ease like a West Coast Jon Hein.
