VIDEO: See Axl Rose, Duff McKagan Talk Guns N’ Roses Reunion in Rare Interview
The lead singer and bassist discuss reaching out to Slash and the future of GN'R
September 6, 2016The ongoing saga of Guns N’ Roses is often nearly as entertaining as their music, so to hear any insight from the band members themselves is a rare treat.
The band’s “Not in This Lifetime” reunion tour is currently rocking South America, and for the occasion, Axl Rose and Duff McKagan sat down with Brazil’s Globo TV in late July for the first interview since the tour began. During the nearly 16-minute chat, Axl and Duff open up about, among other topics, reuniting at Coachella and approaching Slash about it.
“I had called [Slash] and he was on tour or something, and then we set up when we were gonna see each other, and I think something happened to both of our plans and that didn’t happen,” Axl explains. “And then eventually in October, we got together and we had a dinner at my house.”
“Getting into rehearsals, it was really just kind of one day at a time,” adds McKagan. “I don’t know that I thought too much about how far ahead. It was just really cool to play some of the music with the guys that I was playing it with.”
During the conversation, Axl also discusses the absence of guitarist Izzy Stradlin, the decision to perform “Chinese Democracy” songs on the tour, and his time fronting AC/DC. Check out the full interview above.
