“The Honeymooners” was one of the pioneers of the modern American sitcom. Based on a sketch of the same name from the DuMont Network’s “Cavalcade of Stars” variety series, the show aired 39 classic episodes between 1955-56 and starred Jackie Gleason, Audrey Meadows, Art Carney, and Joyce Randolph. Now, CBS is looking to reboot the trail-blazing Kramdens comedy for modern audiences.

The project will be a multicamera sitcom with Bob Kushell (the “Muppets” reboot, “3rd Rock From the Sun”) writing the pilot. “The Honeymooners” has been revived before in various forms, such as sketches in the ’60s on “The Jackie Gleason Show,” four hourlong ABC specials in the ’70s, and a 2005 film starring Cedric the Entertainer.

No word on casting of the iconic roles. Read more on the reboot here.
