VIDEO: Carol Burnett Vows to ‘Stay Woke’ in Teaser for Her Upcoming Netflix Series
“A Little Help With Carol Burnett,” featuring celebrity guests and advice-giving little kids, debuts in 2018
August 1, 2017Carol Burnett is getting her own Netflix series, thanks to her ability to smooth-talk one incredibly junior exec.
The digital streamer dropped a comical first teaser for her upcoming unscripted series ”A Little Help With Carol Burnett.” The teaser (above) shows the 84-year-old comedy legend and 2015 Stern Show guest pitching herself to the world’s youngest development executive—he eventually greenlights her project, but not without first schooling her in the ways of millennials, forcing her to get an Instagram account, and making her promise to “stay woke.”
Set to debut in 2018, “A Little Help With Carol Burnett” will center around conversations between Carol, celebrity guests, and straight-talking little kids offering intergenerational advice to real-life, everyday people. Netflix has ordered 12 half-hour episodes of the series, which will be backed by Dick Clark Productions and filmed in front of a live studio audience.
“Someone once asked me how old I am inside,” Burnett said in a statement given to Hollywood Reporter. “I thought about it, and came up with, ‘I’m about 8.’ So it’s going to be a lot of fun playing with kids my age.”
“We’re thrilled Carol is bringing her unique sensibilities to Netflix,” Bela Bajaria, Vice President of Content Acquisition for Netflix, added. “Carol is truly a legend in the entertainment industry with unprecedented success and fandom across TV, film and the stage, and we are both honored and excited to work with her.”
While this is Carol’s first foray into digital streaming, she remains one of the most experienced TV veterans on the planet. Her long-running, trailblazing “Carol Burnett Show” aired for 11 seasons on CBS. In recent years she’s guest starred on array of series, like “Glee,” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Hot in Cleveland.” During her 2015 conversation with Howard, she recounted a different kind of negotiation with TV executives when setting out to make “The Carol Burnett Show” in the 1960s.
