VIDEO: Punk Legend Patti Smith Performs a Spirited Rendition of ‘Land’ in Trailer for Upcoming Rock Doc
“Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band,” executive produced by Jimmy Iovine, premieres Monday at the Tribeca Film FestivalApril 23, 2018
Punk icon Patti Smith delivers a spirited version of her song “Land” in the newly released trailer for the upcoming concert film “Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band.”
Executive produced by music mogul Jimmy Iovine and directed by SPIN photographer and documentarian Steven Sebring, the rock doc chronicles one of the last concerts of Smith’s 40th anniversary tour celebrating “Horses,” her seminal 1975 debut album. In addition to showing Patti’s performance in full, the doc boasts intimate footage from backstage at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theatre featuring everyone from her band to Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers fame.
When Jimmy joined the Stern Show in 2017, he spoke at length about his prolific career as a record producer, including working with Patti on what would become her biggest hit, “Because the Night.” Co-written by her and Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy said the song actually came to be after he insisted on Patti listening to Bruce’s partially written track which then inspired her to collaborate with the Boss.
Jimmy also credited Patti and Bruce—along with Beatles legend John Lennon—with teaching him everything he needed to know about the music industry. “The three of those people … were my college education,” he told Howard.
