Chris Stapleton Helps Justin Timberlake ‘Say Something’ in the Duo’s Debut Music Video

Collaboration hails from pop star’s upcoming “Man of the Woods” album

January 25, 2018

Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton’s long-awaited collaboration has finally arrived.

As previously reported, the multi-platinum pop star enlisted the help of the Grammy-winning country sensation on “Say Something,” the third single from Timberlake’s forthcoming album “Man of the Woods.” On Friday, the duo dropped the track as well as the official music video.

The Arturo Perez Jr.-directed video (above) begins with Timberlake standing alone in a room, pressing buttons on an electronic music synthesizer. After producing a fair amount of bleeps and bloops, he leaves the room in search of something else. He eventually hops in an elevator, straps on a guitar, and encounters Stapleton—who has a guitar of his own. From there, it’s essentially dueling Gibsons and dueling vocals.

While the duo’s live duets have generated headlines in the past, most famously after their performance at the 2015 Country Music Awards, “Say Something” marks Chris and Justin’s first collaborative single. When Stapleton made his Stern Show debut in 2017, he revealed his history with Timberlake actually stretched a bit further back than the CMAs and included a performance at the pop star’s birthday party at the behest of Timberlake’s wife, actress Jessica Biel.

“It was more of a, kind of a, ‘Hey, come out and hang out and play a little bit,'” Chris told Howard.

Timberlake’s “Man of the Woods” is available Feb. 2. Get more of Chris’s sit-down with Howard here and watch the video for “Say Something” (above).
