VIDEO: Hugh Jackman’s Politics Take a Backseat to Scandal in the Latest ‘Front Runner’ Trailer’

Jason Reitman-directed political biopic opens in select theaters on Election Day 2018

A popular politician’s platform takes a backseat to a scandalous love affair in the new trailer for “The Front Runner,” an upcoming political drama starring past Stern Show guest Hugh Jackman as the 1988 presidential hopeful Gary Hart.

The film’s latest teaser (above) opens with Senator Hart’s presidential campaign adviser Bill Dixon (Oscar-winning Stern Show guest J.K. Simmons) waxing poetic about his candidate’s political acumen over footage of flattering news coverage and raucous crowds. Hart’s campaign gets off to an incredible start, but the wheels soon fall off after rumors surface of an extramarital affair.

Based on a true story, “The Front Runner” hopes to highlight a turning point in American electoral politics when issues and ideology began to matter quite a bit less than gossip and scandal. Directed by Oscar-nominated Stern Show veteran Jason Reitman, the film also stars Alfred Molina, Sara Paxton, Kaitlyn Dever, Kevin Pollak, and 2017 Stern Show guest Bill Burr, who plays George McGovern.

“The Front Runner” hits select theaters on Election Day and opens wide on Nov. 21. Watch the latest trailer (above).
