VIDEO: Aaron Eckhart, Diane Lane, and Christina Hendricks May Descend From Russian Royalty in ‘The Romanoffs’ Trailer

Amazon anthology series hails from “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner

“Mad Men” creator and longtime “Sopranos” scribe Matthew Weiner checks in on the descendants of one of Russia’s most infamous royal bloodlines in “The Romanoffs,” a star-studded anthology series headed to Amazon in October.

Released Wednesday’s the drama’s official trailer (above) tracks a wide cast of characters played by the likes of 2014 Stern Show guest Aaron Eckhart, “First Man’s” Corey Stoll, Diane Lane, Paul Reiser, Noah Wyle, and “Mad Men” actors Christina Hendricks and John Slattery, among others.

Several of them claim to be scions of the Romanovs, a dynasty which ruled Russia for several centuries, but it’s unclear whether or not that’s a good thing. “You’d think that royal blood dilutes over time,” one character proclaims in the trailer (above) over a globe-spanning montage of other possible descendants. “But the poison survives.”

“There are so many people out there with your background,” another adds. “And I guess they’re proud, but they’re really fucked up.”

“The Romanoffs,” co-starring Jack Huston, Kathryn Hahn, Isabelle Huppert, and Andrew Rannells, debuts Friday, Oct. 12 on Amazon. Watch the trailer (above) and check out more of what’s coming to TV this fall here.
