Brie Larson proves a point to repeat Stern Show guest Samuel L. Jackson by blowing up a perfectly good jukebox in the latest look at “Captain Marvel,” arriving March 8 in theaters.

Debuting during Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship, the new trailer (above) begins with test pilot turned intergalactic superhero Carol Danvers (Larson) meeting up with eventual Avengers assembler Nick Fury (Jackson) at a dive bar to discuss their plan to save the planet.

Set in the grunge-filled 1990s, long before the events of Robert Downey Jr.’s “Iron Man” and nearly all the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s other films, “Captain Marvel” sees its heroine returning to Earth under mysterious circumstances just in time to fend off a secret invasion from a powerful race of villainous extraterrestrial shapeshifters called the Skrulls. When Larson warns Jackson of their plan to infiltrate mankind, his first thought is she might be a shapeshifting Skrull, too.

So, she proves she’s for real by destroying a nearby jukebox with her superpowers. “It’s a photon blast,” Larson tells him. “A Skrull cannot do that.”

Indeed, the new footage is jam-packed with impressive displays of quite a few awesome Captain Marvel powers, from space flight to energy absorption to super-strength induced bad-assery. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Jackson tells Clark Gregg, who plays S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson in the first “Avengers” film. “She’s just the beginning.”

“Captain Marvel,” co-starring Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Gemma Chan, McKenna Grace, and Annette Bening, opens March 8.
