Olivia Wilde directed the raunchy high school comedy, debuting May

Told from a wildly original, fresh, and modern perspective, Booksmart is an unfiltered comedy about high school friendships and the bonds we create that last a lifetime. Capturing the spirit of our times, the film is a coming of age story for a new generation.

Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever star as two best friends who come of age on the eve of their high school graduation in “Booksmart,” an unfiltered teen comedy from first-time director and past Stern Show guest Olivia Wilde.

The film follows Molly (Feldstein) and Amy (Dever) after they come to realize they’ve focused too heavily on academia throughout their formative years and have neglected to develop their social skills, so they vow to make the most of their last few days before graduation by crashing wild parties and making new friends.

The latest trailer begins with Molly consoling a lovelorn Amy by sharing a painful story of her own. “I once tried to masturbate with an electric toothbrush, but I got a horrible U.T.I.,” Beanie’s character tells her. “Like, horrible.”

“I wish that would’ve been a secret, but you’ve mentioned it many times.” Dever responds.

Beanie, who has also appeared on Broadway and “Lady Bird,” became a topic of conversation last year on the Stern Show when her brother Jonah Hill came in to promote his own directorial debut, “Mid90s.”

“She’s my best friend in the entire world,” Jonah told Howard. “I wouldn’t have made it through life without her.”

“Booksmart” co-stars Jessica Williams, Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte, and “Saturday Night Live” veteran Jason Sudeikis, who is also Wilde’s fiancé. Olivia spoke to Howard about the origins of their relationship during her 2016 Stern Show debut—catch more of that interview here.

“Booksmart” opens May 24.
