VIDEO: Jake Gyllenhaal Battles a Sea Creature and Samuel L. Jackson Recruits a Web-Slinger in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Teaser

Peter Parker takes his talents overseas in the new official teaser for “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” swinging into theaters this summer.

The video clip (above) follows New York City’s friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man (Tom Holland) as he heads off to Europe for a school-sanctioned summer vacation. But there’s more to Parker’s trip than monuments, art museums, and flirting with his classmate Mary Jane (Zendaya).

The teaser takes a major turn after elemental creatures attack Europe and Stern Show veterans Samuel L. Jackson and Jake Gyllenhaal rear their heads. Jackson, who also stars in Marvel’s March film “Captain Marvel,” reprises his role as super spy Nick Fury while Gyllenhaal makes his debut as the popular Marvel supervillain Mysterio. Fury’s plan is to recruit Spider-Man to help ward off the elemental creatures, but Mysterio has ambitions of his own which involve flying around in a cloud of green smoke, apparently.

“He’s like Iron Man and Thor rolled into one,” Parker’s classmate says while watching Mysterio fight on TV.

“Far From Home” is set after the events of April’s “Avengers: Endgame,” but at this point there are far more questions than answers. For starters, how does Spider-Man come back to life? As those who saw “Avengers: Infinity War” may recall, Thanos turned Parker, Fury, and billions of others into dust in the wind. Also, where’s Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.)? Iron Man played a major part in “Homecoming”—does something happen to his character in “Endgame” that prevents him from making a return?

“Spider-Man: Far From Home,” also starring Marisa Tomei and Jon Favreau, opens July 5.
