Fighting crime is a messy job and fighting super-powered villains masquerading as heroes is even messier, at least if the blood-caked Season 2 teaser for Seth Rogen’s “The Boys” is any indication.
Created by the Stern Show regular, his longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg, and “Supernatural” mastermind Eric Kripke, the irreverent Amazon series follows a raggedy band of rebels attempting to take down a corporate-sponsored league of murderous superheroes.
Though the new clip (above) offers little in the way of plot, character development, or even dialogue, it does boast an impressive amount of fighting, crying, gunfire, and even exploding heads. The quick-cut teaser has plenty of action but only lingers on a few shots, including one featuring a blood-drenched Homelander (Anthony Starr)—who possesses all Superman’s powers but none of his values— and another of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), the leader of the titular boys, who grins as he sips on a piping-hot cup of something quite delicious.
Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s popular comic series, “The Boys” also stars Erin Moriarty (“Jessica Jones”), Jack Quaid (“Logan Lucky”), Karen Fukuhara (“Suicide Squad”), Dominique McElligott (“House of Cards”), Chace Crawford (“Gossip Girl”), and Giancarlo Esposito of “Breaking Bad” fame, among others.
“The Boys” Season 2 arrives on Amazon Prime Video in 2020.
