There’s a new red band trailer out for the upcoming “Hellboy” reboot starring David Harbour (“Stranger Things”) as the film’s titular wisecracking, half-demon superhero.

Set to the sounds of a “Smoke on the Water” cover, the clip begins with an origin story showing how Hellboy was summoned to the earth amid a dire prophecy and taken in by an adoptive father (“Deadwood” and “John Wick’s” Ian McShane) who puts him to work defending the all things good at the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

Hellboy’s B.P.R.D. team includes everyone from a soldier who can transform into a jaguar (Daniel Dae Kim) to a vigilante named Lobster Johnson (Thomas Haden Church), but the group faces its biggest challenge yet in Nimue the Queen of Blood (Milla Jovovich), a resurrected British sorceress from the 5th Century whose ambitions including destroying all mankind and convincing Hellboy to rule the Earth by her side.

“Be my king,” she tells him during a climactic battle involving flaming swords. “We belong together, you and I.”

“We do,” he responds, “But this is not gonna work, you know, because I’m a Capricorn and you’re fucking nuts.”

Based on the Dark Horse Comics character, “Hellboy” is directed by Neil Marshall and written by Andrew Cosby. The film co-stars Sasha Lane and Penelope Mitchell.

“Hellboy” opens April 12 in theaters.
