2019 action-comedy co-stars Elizabeth Banks and Patrick Stewart

A new generation of angels has finally arrived.

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for its upcoming “Charlie’s Angels” film, a continuation of Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, and Bill Murray’s blockbuster action-comedy franchise adapted from the popular 1970s TV show of the same name.

The latest crop of fierce but fashionable private detectives tasked with constantly saving the world are Sabina (Kristen Stewart), a master of disguises, Jane (Ella Balinska), a deadly nerd, and Elena (“Aladdin’s” Naomi Scott), the new recruit. Like in previous incarnations, the trio works for a mysterious benefactor named Charlie Townsend while reporting to an intermediary named Bosley. This time, however, there are more than enough Bosleys to go around with Djimon Hounsou (“Captain Marvel”), 2015 Stern Show guest Sir Patrick Stewart, and the film’s writer and director Elizabeth Banks each playing a version of the character.

Set to the original Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey, and Miley Cyrus tune “Don’t Call Me Angel,” the nearly three-minute-long trailer features plenty of kicks, flips, explosions, car chases, high-tech weaponry, and one-liners as well as Stewart going undercover as everything from a horse jockey to a French maid.

“Charlie’s Angels” opens Nov. 15 in theaters.
