Step aside, Boba Fett—there’s a new bounty hunter coming to a galaxy far, far away.
Disney has released the first trailer for its live-action “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian,” arriving this fall. Created and written by “Lion King” director longtime Stern Show guest Jon Favreau, the Disney+ show chronicles the adventures of the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal of “Narcos” and “Game of Thrones” fame), a bounty hunter who travels to the far corners of the galaxy, shooting pretty much anyone who gets in his way.
While the Mandalorian doesn’t appear to be a man of many words, the new clip does tease plenty of explosive action, including outer-space dogfights, droids double-fisting guns, doors sawing characters in half, and a bunch of Storm Troopers with their heads on pikes. “Bounty hunting is a complicated profession. Don’t you agree?” co-star Werner Herzog’s character asks at one point (above).
Set a few years after the events of 1983’s “Return of the Jedi,” “The Mandalorian” co-stars Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers, MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano (“Deadpool”), actor and “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi, comedian and 2017 Stern Show guest Bill Burr, and legendary “Breaking Bad” villain Giancarlo Esposito, among others. It’s the “Star Wars” franchise’s first live-action TV show and one of several anticipated genre offerings coming to Disney’s new premium streaming service when it launches in November.
This has been an altogether big week for “Star Wars” fans. At Disney’s annual D23 Expo over the weekend, the company also released a special look at J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” starring Daisy Ridley, past Stern Show guest Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, and the late Carrie Fisher, among others. Take a look (below).
“The Mandalorian” debuts Nov. 12 on Disney+ and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” opens Dec. 20 in theaters.
