VIDEO: Eric Clapton Kicks Off Star-Studded Ginger Baker Tribute With ‘Sunshine of Your Love’ Performance
Chic’s Nile Rodgers, Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, and Steve Winwood also help celebrate the late Cream drummer

Cream co-founder Ginger Baker was recently celebrated by a cadre of music icons, including guitar legend and former bandmate Eric Clapton who delivered a memorable rendition of their supergroup’s biggest hit, “Sunshine of Your Love.”
Clapton and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters joined forces to perform the song (above), kickstarting Monday’s all-star tribute concert held at London’s Eventim Apollo. Other featured artists included Chic’s Nile Rodgers, Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, “Higher Love” singer Steve Winwood, British musician Paul Carrack, and Baker’s son Kofi. The artists combined to perform a set list that included a number of Cream hits, including also “White Room,” “Strange Brew,” and “Crossroads.”
One of rock’s premiere drummers, Peter Edward “Ginger” Baker died last October at the age of 80.
During Monday’s event, Clapton remembered his bandmate fondly from the stage. “I called him Peter Edward,” Clapton said. “I think he’s here somewhere and he’ll be playing music for you tonight and we’re going to help him along. He was a scoundrel, but I loved him and he loved me and that was that. I saw some people get the rough edge of his tongue, but I never did and I feel blessed. That’s why I’m doing this. I miss him.”
