“Saturday Night Live’s” preeminent American patriot returns to the small screen in the official trailer for “MacGruber,” exploding onto Peacock in December.

Will Forte reprises his role as the titular action hero in the series, spun-off from a 2010 film of the same name and based on a recurring “SNL” sketch which itself was a parody of the popular ‘80s action show “MacGyver.” Returning to his side are Stern Show veterans Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe, co-starring as Vicki St. Elmo and Dixon Piper, respectively.

The film’s plot follows MacGruber as he’s released from prison and sent on a mission to take down a deadly villain from his own past. “This isn’t just any mission for me. This is personal. He murdered my mother,” Forte explains in the clip (above).

“I’m in,” Wiig’s character replies.

“He’ll get us all killed,” Phillippe’s character adds.

Produced by Forte, “SNL” boss Lorne Michaels, and the film’s director Jorma Taccone, “MacGruber” also stars Laurence Fishburne, Mickey Rourke, Sam Elliott, and Billy Zane.

“MacGruber” arrives Dec. 16 on Peacock.
