Neil Young and Crazy Horse Drop Music Videos for ‘Welcome Back’ and ‘Shape of You’

Legendary rocker’s new effort “Barn” is available now

December 10, 2021

It’s shaping up to be a big month for the Godfather of Grunge.

Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse dropped their new album “Barn” on Friday along with the official music video for one of its tracks, “Shape of You.” The releases arrived on the same day his Darryl Hannah-directed rock doc premiered and just a few days after the video for the effort’s lead single, “Welcome Back.”

In many ways, the two songs could hardly be more different. “Shape of You” is a harmonica and piano-driven barroom howler clocking in at under three minutes while “Welcome Back” is a nine-minute-long guitar-led ballad about the nation’s response to the COVID-19 crisis. In the music video for the former (above), we see sketched animals like horses and bison roaming the plains. In the latter (below), audiences are treated to Neil and his band rocking out just like they have been for so many decades.

Young has released over 40 albums throughout his illustrious career with Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and as a solo artist. “Barn” is the 76-year-old, two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s first record with Crazy Horse since 2019’s “Colorado.”

Neil Young’s “Barn” is available now.
