Jon Bernthal stars as both a cop and a robber in the teaser for the HBO crime drama “We Own This City,” arriving in April.

Created and written by David Simon and George Pelecanos, the tandem behind the network’s critically acclaimed police drama “The Wire,” the six-episode miniseries follows the rise of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption from within that brought it all crashing down. Bernthal plays St. Wayne Jenkins, a central figure in the task force, who in the teaser (above) steals a large sum of cash from a drug dealer and shares it with the other officers on his team.

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and based on a nonfiction book from Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, “We Own This City” co-stars Wunmi Mosaku, Jamie Hector, Gabrielle Carteris, Josh Charles, Treat Williams, Tray Chaney, and McKinley Belcher III.

This isn’t Bernthal’s first time playing a morally ambiguous crimefighter, of course. The Stern Show veteran previously starred as a shady police officer on “The Walking Dead” and also as the titular vigilante on the beloved Marvel series “The Punisher.” He spoke to Howard about both roles during a 2017 interview, even opening up about a little real-life trouble he got into with the law back when he was a kid.
