Stern Show listeners were given an unexpected treat Sunday evening — a surprise show from Howard! While entertaining guests at his home including Drew Barrymore, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Bon Jovi, and many more, Howard decided to interrupt the current Howard 100 broadcast to spin some tunes with his friends. “I’m trying something new … I’m breaking into my own channel,” he announced at the start. “I thought we would play music — I would go back to my roots of being a D.J.”

“This is honestly unprecedented,” “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon beamed. “There’s a lot of cool people at your house right now.”

Kicking things off was Drew, who chose the ELO song “Don’t Bring Me Down.” “It’s a song that I loved when I was young, but it’s really in my repertoire right now,” the talk show host explained before wondering the meaning of a key lyric in the chorus. “Who is Bruce?”

“Is it ‘Springsteen’ Bruce?” Jimmy added.

In addition to eating blueberry crumble and the entire party singing “Happy Birthday” to Beth in honor of her special day, Downey Jr. and Fallon covered the Eagles’ “Hotel California” and “Champagne Supernova” by Oasis. “You guys are good together,” Howard marveled at the duo.

While they were there, both Robert and Jimmy recalled the time they unsuccessfully auditioned at a hotel for “The Holiday,” the 2006 romantic comedy that starred Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, and Jude Law.

“I’m sitting across from Robert Downey Jr, and I go, ‘This is the best actor I’ve ever sat across [from] and did a scene with in my entire life,’” Jimmy remembered. “It was mind-blowing for me, and I quit the business … that was the last time I ever auditioned for a role.”

Robert jokingly added that, despite his best efforts, Winslet had one big critique of his performance. “Winslet said, ‘That is the worst British accent I’ve ever heard,’” he teased. “I was like, ‘I’ll check out now but I’m taking the gummy bears from the minibar.’”
