VIDEO: Gary Dell’Abate Is Fed Up With All the Pope Francis News Coverage
“It’s pope, pope, pope, pope, pope, pope, pope — Knicks lost — pope, pope, pope, pope,” the Stern Show executive producer bemoans
April 24, 2025Did Baba Booey really get mad because news coverage of Pope Francis’s death overshadowed the New York Knicks’ latest playoff run? Is the pope Catholic?
Much of the world mourned on Monday after learning Pope Francis, who led the Roman Catholic Church for 12 years, had died. On Tuesday morning, Gary Dell’Abate revealed the world leader’s passing had him distraught for other reasons: it was generating too much news coverage.
“It’s all pope, all the time — no weather, no traffic, no sports,” the Stern Show’s executive producer lamented, adding, “Talk about the pope all you want, just give me the 15 seconds of weather and traffic.”
Howard wondered if his longtime colleague was focusing on the wrong thing, but Gary held firm as he explained that, even going into day two of coverage, the media barely made time for anything else. “This morning it was … pope, pope, pope, pope, pope, pope, pope — Knicks lost — pope, pope, pope, pope,” Gary concluded.
