New York Congressman Gary Ackerman came into the studio to present Howard with the American flag that was flown over the Capital on January 9, 2006 to honor his move to SIRIUS. Congressman Ackerman explained that such an occurrence is rare, adding that he was also giving Howard a certificate signed both by him and the architect of the Capital authenticating that the flag was actually flown there for that reason. After Howard explained how flattered he was by the gesture, Robin pointed out that many people who are against burning the American flag would probably make an exception for this one.

After learning that most politicians make their money through favors after they leave office, Howard asked Congressman Ackerman if he regretted his career choice. Congressman Ackerman responded that the only regret he has about his job is that he hasn’t been as “effective” as he wants to be. Congressman Ackerman explained that Washington is so divided along political lines right now that being a Democrat actually hurts him, seeing as the House is controlled by the Republicans. Congressman Ackerman went on to say that, if it were up to him, he’d get rid of the influence the religious right has on the government, acknowledging that the group has a strong control over many people in positions of power.
