Gary told how he was eating lunch at a restaurant yesterday, and Conan O’Brien, who was also there, came up to him and told him he thought the show was better than ever. After Gary noted Conan also told him he bought his entire staff SIRIUS radios and subscriptions last Christmas, Howard added he was looking forward to tomorrow and Thursday’s free previews of the show. When Gary reported that he heard from a fan recently who told him she thought the show was becoming too dirty for her taste, Howard replied that, with a daily five-hour broadcast, he couldn’t always please everyone.

Howard went on to say he was being pressured by people like Scott Greenstein and Tim Sabean to appear on “Late Show with David Letterman” to promote the free shows, but he didn’t want to do it because he had “nothing new to say.” Howard then mentioned Dave was “smart,” and he’d notice right away that he was there just to push his previews. When Howard mentioned he wanted to read the e-mail Tim wrote him because of how “unfunny” it was, Scott the Engineer came into the studio to help retrieve it from his computer, but was unsuccessful.

Tim then came in and admitted it was “a weak moment” that caused him to write potential material for Howard to do on “Late Show,” and then gave him a copy of the e-mail. Howard then read Tim’s note, which included the following tips: • Refer to himself not as the King of All Media, but as the King of the World because he was on the Internet • Call himself the King of the Internet • Give statistics about the number of listeners he had on SIRIUS compared to how many certain terrestrial radio stations had • Claim he could solve the problems in North Korea, end celebrity adoptions of African babies, and let people know how to get off the island in “Lost” After reading the list, Artie pointed out the “Late Show” audience – who he noted was from Iowa – wouldn’t have appreciated Howard’s appearance had he done what Tim wanted, while Robin admitted not even she would’ve watched it.
