Howard played a clip of former NBA player, Tim Hardaway, talking about gay athletes in the league, saying he wanted to “distance himself” from homosexuals before claiming they didn’t belong in the locker room seeing as, to him, their lifestyles weren’t “right.” When the interviewer pointed out to Tim that his remarks seemed harsh, he replied, “I hate gay people…I’m homophobic.” Following the tape, Howard noted he didn’t understand why anyone would be against gay people, and added Tim had since apologized for his remarks.
