Gary’s Book Is a Pain

June 22, 2010

Howard complained that Gary wanted him to vet portions of his forthcoming book: “Now I have to read a book. How many chapters do I have to read, Gary?”

Gary said the sections that concern Howard total “less than 25 pages,” but even that seemed like too much for Howard: “Give to my agent. My agent likes to read.”

Gary bristled: “We’ve been together 26 years, you don’t have to read it. Don’t worry. It’s a page a year. I apologize.”

But Howard struck the final blow: “I’ll treat your book like you treat me. I’ll fall asleep in the middle of it.”

Booey Goes in the Title

Gary passed around a mock-up of the cover his publisher wants to use: “I thought it was funny I just didn’t think that was the direction they were going to take. I have to get used to it.”

Howard cracked up: “Use it! It’s a scream.”

Robin agreed: “You’ve got to use that. That is amazing.”
