Robin told the crew that her father had been adopted after being abandoned on a random doorstep in a black community: “It was all because he looked white…probably some white woman got knocked up by a black guy and her family just took the kid to a black neighborhood and left him there.”

Howard said he had a conflicted relationship with his own name–he was named after his mother’s grandfather, a man who had a second family in Europe.

The lone survivor of his European family was Ray Stern’s mom, who’d take Ray to visit her grandfather but refused to be in the same room with him: “Crazy shit, these families.”
