Howard Packs Up

June 21, 2011

Early in the show, Howard confessed that he’d been sitting in his office the other day and was overcome with a desire to clean house: “All of a sudden, I started packing up some of my pictures. I decided they shouldn’t be here anymore. And I really didn’t know why.”

Later, he read in Rolling Stone that Keith Olbermann had done the same late in his career at MSNBC: “He said, ‘I no longer felt it was like home.'”

Howard empathized with Keith: “What changed? I’ll leave it to you to figure it out.”

But Howard couldn’t stop himself from explicitly trashing Sirius XM’s upper management: “They treat like I’m some kind of asshole. They treat me like I’m an employee. And that was everything I wanted to avoid when I came here.” Howard said he saw it coming (“I knew I was in for more of the same. Trust me. It dawned on me early on.”) but was still hurt: “This has thrown me for a loop. It really, really has.”
