David Arquette called in to dispute Howard’s take on his “Dancing with the Stars” performance last night: “It was my best score. Why did you say I’m desperate, Howard?”

Howard (erroneously) blamed the word choice on Gary but defended his point: “You’re going to come off desperate if you act like you want this too much. Which you are.”

David said he was under a lot of pressure, but Howard dismissed the idea: “The pressure is you want to win.”

David claimed he wasn’t after a victory: “It’s really not about winning to me…it becomes so much more of a mental challenge.”

As David detailed a life-long pursuit of approval, Howard stopped him: “There’s no way ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is going to cure your insecurity.”
