Early in the show, Howard harangued Glenn Beck for his support of the "intelligent design" theory-- a theory long discredited by scientists: "These are people who have made tremendous contributions to our longevity, to our medicine, to our health--these are people who are trying to figure out life's mysteries. They're not sitting there reading stories that somebody wrote in a book and making believe."
Frequent caller, Melrose Larry Green called in to defend his second favorite radio host, claiming that Glenn Beck was actually quite bright: "He's a genius in my opinion."
Still, Melrose admitted his bias: "You know I'm a right-wing nut. You know that."
Howard laughed that Beck's supporters trusted an overblown former morning zoo-keeper: "It's an anti-intellectual movement."
