Early in the show, Howard pointed at Benjy’s empty seat and fumed at his frequent tardiness: “I should fire him. … In my mind, Benjy was up late recording that horrible music with his girlfriend.” Howard went on to attack Benjy’s recent output: “He’s good for about 10 lines a morning. And I’ll use [only] 5 or 6. … I wish he’d leave. If he shows up, tell him to go home.” 20 minutes later, Benjy rushed in–and Howard exploded: “How could you be late? We work three days a week. And you just had two weeks off! What the hell is wrong with you? I will be firing you, but I’m not firing you yet. I’m going to find your replacement first. … Gary, have Shuli sit next to Benjy for a couple weeks, and let’s see what kind of stuff he puts out. And then I can fire Benjy.”
