Early in the show, Benjy outlined the rules for the songwriting contest he proposed yesterday, telling Howard that his girlfriend, Elisa Jordana, would take on any famous songwriter: “You give a topic and give them a half hour or an hour, and they both come up with a song by themselves. And write the lyrics and music by themselves.” Gary said he’d been approached by Mark McGrath and his writing partner, but they only work in tandem: “He said, ‘We’ve always written together. And I don’t want to hear any bullshit from the [Benjy] vortex.'” Benjy jumped at the opportunity, (seemingly), honoring Mark’s no-shtick request: “That would be great. Thanks, Mark.”
