Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon Levitt had the honor of following Richard Simmon's crazy appearance to talk about his new movie "Don Jon". Unlike Richard he did not come dressed in drag, try to kiss anyone, or throw himself over Howard's console. On the other hand...would have been kinda of cool if he did.
You may know Joseph from the hit movies and TV shows Inception, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Angels in the Outfield, Lincoln and Dark Knight Rises. Here's what he had to say about some of those roles:
3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN
After appearing on the hit sitcom for 5 seasons, Joseph left 3rd Rock from the Sun before it's last season so he could attend Columbia University. He admitted to Howard that he walked away from a lot of money doing that.
He liked college, but admitted that he didn't get a lot of p*ssy because girls were into him for the wrong reasons and it freaked him out. He left after his third year to make films.
the dark knight rises
Howard asked Joseph why, at the end of the Dark Knight Rises, it seemed like Joseph's character was going to be either Batman or Robin in the next Batman film, while Ben Affleck was recently announced as the new Batman. Joseph said that director Christopher Nolan always intended to make a trilogy, and the trilogy was complete.
Joseph says he was never contacted to continue to play Batman (or Robin) outside of the Nolan trilogy.
Joseph played Abraham Lincoln's son is Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln." Joseph was in awe of his movie dad Daniel Day Lewis, the notorious method actor. How much of a method actor is Daniel Day Lewis? Joseph received a note from Lewis written on old paper with a quill, as Lincoln would've done. Spielberg even referred to Lewis as "Mr. President" throughout filming.
No comment yet on if Daniel Day Lewis rode a horse and buggy to set each day.
Joseph started writing his first movie "Don Jon" while he was filming the Judd Apatow movie 50/50 in 2008. Once the script was finished, he made the trek out tot set of the Avengers to talk to Scarlett Johansson – whom he had written the leading lady part for – about life, love and relationships, hoping to convince her to take the role. She did, and he admits that her involvement was key in securing the financing for the film, which was shot on a budget of $3 million but will open up in wide release.
The movie is about a guy who objectifies women and loves porn, because he's more into one-way relationships than actual human give-and-take. Scarlett plays his love interest, and the two had some sex scenes. Joseph wouldn't officially confirm that he was aroused, but he couldn't imagine that he didn't get an erection while cavorting with Scarlett Johansson.
He quoted the great Denzel Washington, who, Joseph claims, said about sex scenes: "Please forgive me if I do get an erection and please forgive me if I don't get one.'
joseph behind the scenes
In his personal life, Joseph is good friends with fellow actor Channing Tatum (or "Chan" as Joseph refers to him) and the two hang out a lot. They both smoke weed (Levitt claims), but Joseph smokes it a lot more than "Chan" does.
Joseph has dabbled in different drugs – LSD he liked, coke he didn't, weed he likes a lot. Levitt made sure to clarify that although he likes LSD, he doesn't recommend anyone else do it...alone. Make sure to have a trusted, sober friend with you!
He wouldn't talk about his current relationship, though he does have a girlfriend.
Next up, Joseph is focusing on creating a TV show.
