VIDEO: Richard Christy’s Kansas City Chiefs Are Headed to the Super Bowl

Stern Show staffer Richard Christy was all smiles after his Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Tennessee Titans Sunday to advance to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1969, but not without drawing criticism from his boss. “What he’s planning to do is go to Kansas City for the Super Bowl and watch the game outside because in Kanas City … this time of year people sit outside and watch the football games on a TV together in a group,” Howard said on Monday.

“First of all, can I say how ‘bout them Chiefs!” Richard yelled enthusiastically upon entering the studio. “They were down at the beginning and then fuckin’ Mahomes … I’m gonna fuckin’ cry, he fuckin’ rules, man.”

This wasn’t the first time Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has brought a tear to Richard’s eye, either. He had the opportunity to chat with Q.B. last year on the Wrap Up Show, a memory the staffer holds dear to his heart. “He told me on Wrap Up Show last year, he said, ‘We’re going to get to Miami next year for you and your dad,’” Richard recalled, his voice noticeably trembling with emotion. “And he fucking did it.”

“Yeah, but you’re going to be in a parking lot,” co-host Robin Quivers said.

One person Howard had plenty of praise for Monday was Richard’s dad. “I look at you and I get envious … because of your relationship with your father,” Howard admitted, switching gears. “I’m going to share with you what I think is a great dad, even though Richard’s fucked up. His dad is salt of the earth.”

“I really do think this guy’s got parenting down,” Howard continued, pointing out the frequent voicemails Richard’s dad leaves for his son. “Who wouldn’t want a dad who makes these calls … he calls his son for the most mundane reasons and that’s okay. It’s very heartwarming to me.”

In one recent voicemail, Mr. Christy called to thank Richard for the box of wild game jerky he sent him, especially the kangaroo variety. The elder Christy then gifted Richard with some water buffalo meat.
