Howard and Robin Weigh In on King Charles’s Opulent Coronation
“England’s gotta get a grip on themselves,” Howard says
Charles III was officially crowned King of the United Kingdom on Saturday in an opulent coronation ceremony at London’s Westminster Abbey filled with dramatic music, lavish outfits, and celebrity guests ranging from Emma Thompson to “American Idol” judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. On Monday morning, Howard and co-host Robin Quivers were eager to share their coronation thoughts.
“England has gotta get a grip on themselves,” Howard began. “England is having its own economic problems and they spent a fortune on that coronation, and it’s just repugnant,” he continued, explaining the ceremony reportedly cost the U.K. $125 million. “It just sends the wrong message.”
Robin, meanwhile, took issue with all the extravagant aesthetics. “Where did they get these outfits and medals?” she asked. “What are they dressed up for? It looks like a crazy Halloween party.”
As one staffer noted, many coronation participants were awkwardly reading off cue cards despite having had months to study their lines. He compared it to someone becoming a bar mitzvah without bothering to learn their Hebrew prayers.
“You work harder as a 13-year-old Jewish boy,” Robin agreed.
Ms. Quivers also poked fun at the theatrical entrance music played as King Charles arrived at Westminster Abbey. “What is this, the start of the Kentucky Derby?” she laughed after hearing the clip.
“I want this played when I walk in the room at SiriusXM,” Howard joked.
