Metallica & the San Francisco Symphony Team Up on Hard-Hitting ‘Moth Into Flame’ Music Video
Collaboration appears on the metal legends’ Aug. 28 concert album “S&M2”

Metallica just unleashed a brand-new team up with the San Francisco Symphony.
The heavy metal legends and repeat Stern Show guests have dropped their symphonic edition of “Moth Into Flame,” appearing on their upcoming collaborative concert album “S&M2.”
The performance video begins with lead singer James Hetfield asking animated fans in attendance if they’re ready for more metal. Indeed they are. A few seconds later, he, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo—encircled by the San Francisco Symphony—launch into a face-melting, solo-filled rendition of the band’s popular “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct” track.
“Moth Into Flame” is the third video released from “S&M2,” following “All Within My Hands” and “Nothing Else Matters.” Recorded last September at San Francisco’s Chase Center, the concert experience will arrive in a variety of formats, from vinyl, CDs, and Blu-rays to a limited-edition box set containing guitar picks, a poster, and sheet music autographed by the band.
Metallica has joined the Stern Show multiple times over the years, most recently in 2016 when the band performed “Hardwired,” another track off “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct.” Check out their in-studio rendition (below) and catch Metallica’s full sit-down with Howard here.
