Chris Cornell Releases Posthumous Music Video as Metallica, Foo Fighters, and His Old Bandmates Prep for Massive Tribute Concert

Few rock stars are having a bigger week than longtime Stern Show guest and renowned frontman Chris Cornell, despite the fact he passed away over a year ago.
The rock legend’s estate released a new music video and career-spanning box set on Friday, just days after news broke his legacy would be honored with a star-studded tribute concert slated for January 2019.
Kevin Kerslake directed the clip for the previously unreleased Cornell tune “When Bad Does Good,” appearing on the box set. The video (above) features Chris’s son Christopher paying homage to his late father in character as a paperboy—a job Chris reportedly held as a kid—who rides his bike around Seattle, past tributes to his father’s artistry and locations where his dad famously recorded.
“For me this video represents my dad and all the art he created throughout his life and what his music meant then and what it means now,” Christopher Cornell said in a statement.
Cornell’s career retrospective contains four CDs, one DVD, seven LPs, and a hard cover photo book, among other offerings. There are 88 tracks in total—some live, some rare, some unreleased—chronicling his prolific solo catalogue as well as his time with Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and Audioslave.
Its release follows news of “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell,” an upcoming concert event dedicated to his music and memory. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the tribute will feature performances from Cornell’s former bandmates and many of his well-known contemporaries, including fellow Stern Show veterans Metallica and Foo Fighters as well as Ryan Adams and others to be announced later.
“I Am the Highway” will take place on Jan. 16 at the Forum in Los Angeles. Tickets are available now, with proceeds going to the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation and the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation.
Chris, who visited and performed on the Stern Show quite a few times throughout his career, was 52 when he died last May. Howard offered up a heartfelt tribute following the rock icon’s passing, saying, “I loved that guy’s voice, I loved his look, loved the way he played the guitar, loved his songs, and now he’s gone.”
