DAVID SPADE: STANDUP EXTRAORDINAIRE
7 of his best routines get the GIF treatment.
June 8, 2015He’s been making the masses laugh their asses off since starring on “Saturday Night Live” in the early ’90s. David Spade slayed audiences by being sharp, sarcastic, self-deprecating and of course hilarious. After his six-year run on “SNL,” Spade went on to become a box office draw in movies and an Emmy-nominated primetime sitcom star on television. But for all the laughs he’s earned over the years, it is perhaps up on stage with just a stool and a microphone that Spade slays his audiences the hardest.
Standup comedy is where Spade cut his teeth while growing up in Arizona. His first solo comedy special, “Take the Hit,” aired on HBO in 1998 and candidly tackled what it was like being raised by his mom, his relationship with his absent father and what a “loser” he was as a teenager. Fifteen years later, Spade released a second special, “My Fake Problems,” and offered up another raw and raunchy take on what it’s like being him.
We love his movies. We love his work on TV. But we think David’s standup routines deserve far more credit than they’re getting. And so, we took seven of our favorite Spade bits and gave them the GIF treatment.
1. ON HIS BUDDY CHRIS FARLEY
2. ON HIS FORMER CLASSMATE BRAD PITT
3. ON HOW EASY ACTING IS
4. ON HIS MOM
5. ON HIS DAD
