Disney Channel starlet Zendaya is playing Peter Parker’s iconic love interest Mary Jane Watson in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ according to TheWrap. The 19-year-old actress and singer stars opposite Tom Holland, who made his Parker/Spider-Man debut earlier this year in Disney-Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.”

As an actress, Zendaya is best known for her Disney Channel shows “Shake It Up!” and “K.C. Undercover.” She has also appeared on ABC’s “Black-ish” and “Dancing With the Stars.” “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” however, marks her first starring role in a sure-to-be Summer blockbuster.

The character of Mary Jane was previously portrayed by Kirsten Dunst during the Sony franchise’s Tobey Maguire days. Andrew Garfield took over as the web-slinger in 2012 and was given a new love interest in Gwen Stacy (played by Emma Stone).

“Homecoming” co-stars Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, and Bokeem Woodbine. Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr., who shared scenes with Holland in “Civil War,” will also return.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” swings into theaters on July 7, 2017.
