Grant Birdsong, a 22-year-old senior at the University of Pittsburgh, tried impressing his date Monday night by taking her up to a rooftop and leaping from one building to the next. But the stunt didn’t go as planned.

Grant’s jump came up short, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and he slipped between the two buildings, breaking his ankle in the process. He got himself stuck, too, spending the entire night wedged between the walls of a burrito chain and a bagel shop.

Paramedics and police rescued him on Tuesday morning, but tore through some infrastructure in the process (pictured above). “They had to use a jackhammer to break open a wall in Qdoba and remove him,” reports the Post-Gazette.

After his rescue, Grant was rushed off to the hospital for surgery on his ankle. The first responders who worked through the night to free him, meanwhile, were treated to free coffee and restroom use at Bruegger’s Bagels.

It’s not yet known whether local law enforcement plans to file charges against Grant, who is majoring in communication and film studies.
