Ryan Lochte seems to stir controversy everywhere he goes these days and the trend continued Monday, during a “Dancing With the Stars” debut that turned very strange very quickly.

After performing his introductory dance – a foxtrot to “Call Me Irresponsible” – two audience members leapt from the crowd and rushed at Lochte on stage. ABC did not air the disruption, instead the cameras stayed focused on judge Carrie Ann Inaba and her reaction:

Lochte and partner Cheryl Burke looked visibly shaken during the incident, which ended after security tackled the intruders and Tom Bergeron cut to commercial. The two men who stormed the stage – both wearing white “Lochte” t-shirts with a line through his name – were taken into custody. Four women wearing the same shirts remained in the audience before being escorted out by security.

Although, both Lochte and Burke were unharmed, the Olympian was upset by the incident. “At that moment, I was really heartbroken,” Lochte told People. “I had to brush it off, I had to realize that I came out here in front of millions and did something that I don’t know how to do.”

“Dancing With the Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
