Drake paid a visit to Iowa’s Drake University on Wednesday, but when the Canadian rapper arrived he found almost everyone was asleep.
It started Tuesday night, when Drake played a concert at the nearby Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines and was presented with a letterman jacket from Drake University. After the show, he decided to return the favor and make the trek to Drake U.
When the “Hold On, We’re Going Home” singer arrived at around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, however, he found most of the students tucked comfortably into bed. Drake reportedly even knocked on the doors to a couple of sororities to see if anyone wanted to hang, but to no avail.
The only fan who interacted with Drake was Ben Scott, a student who spotted the Grammy-winner and former “Degrassi” star from across the street. “They missed it and I felt so bad for them,” Scott told WHO-TV.
Many students were reluctant to believe Drake University’s patrons saint of smooth sounds actually paid their campus a visit, but the proof is in the Instagram pudding, as he took a picture on top of the school’s sign (above).
Hopefully this cautionary tale will serve as a warning for the next group of students who may be visited by their famous school namesake — we’re looking at you, Beyonce Polytechnic Institute’s Class of 2019.
