With the studio trickery available to singers these days, even the worst crooners can manipulate their voices to sound like Pavarotti. However, with everything else stripped away, only the best singers truly stand out. Music production site the Loop Loft has gathered 12 amazing isolated vocal tracks from singers ranging from Michael Jackson (“Beat It”) to Kurt Cobain (“Smells Like Teen Spirit”) to Brian Wilson (“God Only Knows”).

Take a listen to a few mind-blowing displays of pipe mastery (below).

Michael Jackson – “Beat It”

Nirvana – “Smells Like Teen Spirit”

The Beach Boys – “God Only Knows”

The list also includes the likes of Oasis, Christina Aguilera, and Freddie Mercury (twice, naturally). No sign of Robin Quivers, unfortunately.
