Pop superstar Adele may have been the big winner at Sunday night’s 59th Grammy Awards, but she was intent on splitting the evening’s top prize with her fellow nominee, Beyoncé. While accepting her Album of the Year award for “25,” Adele told the crowd, “I can’t possibly accept this award, and I’m very humbled and I’m very grateful and gracious, but my artist of my life is Beyoncé.” She then broke her Grammy in two so she and Beyoncé could share the trophy.

“I thought it was her year,” Adele told the press backstage. “What the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year?”

By winning Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year, Adele became the first musician in history to sweep those categories twice. She previously won all three awards in 2012.
