Video: Jimmy Kimmel Reveals First Black ‘Bachelorette’
Rachel Lindsay will try to find love on the next season of ABC’s hit reality series

Spoiler alert: Rachel Lindsay definitely does not wind up with Nick Viall on this season of “The Bachelor.” Instead, the 31-year-old lawyer from Texas was announced as the next star of “The Bachelorette” on Monday night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” making her the first black woman to ever be named the lead love-seeker on the hit ABC reality series.
“I think it’s safe to say your hometown date with Nick did not go as planned,” Kimmel said about a yet-to-be-aired episode of “The Bachelor.” Rachel recently became one of the final four contestants on Season 21 but confirmed things do not work out between her and Nick. She now hopes to find romance on her own show, which starts shooting soon.
“We’re a couple weeks out from filming,” Rachel told Jimmy. “We’re ready to get this started. I’m ready to find love, find a husband, so, if you know anybody out there who needs to apply.”
Many wondered whether Rachel would win “The Bachelor” after she received several roses from the show’s current star, Nick. In February, the bachelor himself stopped by the Stern Show and told Howard the race of his future wife was not important to him.
“I don’t really care about the color of their skin,” Viall told Howard. “I think diversity is great.”
For Rachel, she’s looking for someone who can make her laugh and who has a great smile.
“I know you’re an attorney, if you do not find love, will you sue ABC?” Jimmy asked.
“To be determined,” Rachel joked.
