Spider-Man Villain Venom to Get Solo Spin-Off Film

The web-slinger's arch nemesis hits theaters on his own on October 5, 2018

March 17, 2017

J. Jonah Jameson may have wanted pictures of Spider-Man, but now Sony wants a picture of Venom. Indeed, it was announced Thursday that the extraterrestrial, sharp-toothed menace of everyone’s favorite web-slinger would receive his own solo, spin-off film in 2018. For the villainous comic favorite, the film will be his first solo outing, having previously appeared in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3,” played by Topher Grace.

The script will be written by Scott Rosenberg (“Jumanji”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”). No director has been named yet. Venom’s solo outing will follow Sony’s reboot of Spider-Man, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” starring Tom Holland as the web-slinger, who has previously played the role in “Captain America: Civil War.”

The Venom spin-off will hit theaters on October 5, 2018.
