True crime series have carved out their own corner of the TV landscape recently, from multiple-Emmy and Oscar-winning OJ Simpson series’ to a plethora of projects on JonBenet Ramsey. Now, Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order” is getting in on the true crime game with a spinoff based on the 1989 Menendez brothers murder, which NBC released a trailer for on Monday (above).

“The true story will finally be told,” promises the trailer, which stars Edie Falco (“Private Parts,” “The Sopranos”) as Leslie Abramson, the attorney tasked with defending Lyle and Erik Menendez after the two brothers murdered their parents. In the trailer, Falco’s Abramson claims that the brothers were merely victims of their upbringing. “When you terrorize people precisely as you would expect them to. What these boys did is not the issue. It’s why they did it,” she says in voice over.

“Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders” will air Thursdays this fall on NBC, though no premiere date has yet been set. Read more about the series here.
