Conan O’Brien Signs 4-Year Contract Extension With TBS
Former Stern Show guest vows to evolve his late-night show into “something leaner, more agile, and more unpredictable”

Not so long ago, Conan O’Brien was making bold predictions about how the world would look in the year 2000. Now, the late-night host and former Stern Show guest’s future has been written all the way through 2022.
On Wednesday, he and TBS announced they had reached a four-year contract extension for their ongoing deal. Not only will this keep him behind the “Conan” desk through at least 2022, but it will also make him TV’s longest-running late-night host, according to AV Club. Additionally, TBS and O’Brien’s Conaco company/Team Coco brand have agreed to create more digital content, podcasts, mobile games, pay TV, and even live tours, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“The TV landscape has changed dramatically since I inherited the traditional talk show format in 1993,” Conan said in a statement. “In the past few years I’ve stumbled across many new and exciting ways of connecting with my audience, and I’m eager to evolve my show into something leaner, more agile, and more unpredictable. I also want a pony.”
Before becoming a late-night icon in front of the camera, Conan was a “Saturday Night Live” writer responsible for memorable sketches like “Mr. Short Term Memory” and “Nude Beach.” Check out his and Howard’s 2015 conversation about those early days of Conan’s career here.
“Conan” airs Monday through Thursday at 11 p.m. on TBS.
